Who We Are

Headquartered in Springfield, the Illinois Railroad Association is a non-profit trade association established in 1951 to represent the interests of freight railroads operating in Illinois and related Illinois businesses.

Association members include all seven Class 1 railroads operating in the United States, numerous regional and shortline railroads, and the Railway Supply Institute, which represents railroad suppliers.

What We Do

The Illinois Railroad Association reviews and monitors all legislation introduced in the Illinois General Assembly. Proposed legislation affecting railroads and related industries is shared with our members. Once the Association determines its position on the legislation, that information is communicated to the staffs and members of the Illinois legislature, as well as the appropriate personnel in the various state agencies.
